Just completed in time for Christmas! A commissioned original watercolor painting for the owners of this prestigious OYSTER 62.5, the "Peregrine Falcon". This yacht hails from Palma De Mallorca, Spain, and this image was derived from a photo taken during this year's '2022 Oyster Regatta Palma.
This vessel featured a significant amount of detail and complex geometry to be captured in a typical water color painting. In order to be sure that I accurately documented all of these dynamics, I first traced the outlines of the boat's shape, deck lines and sail plan using Adobe Illustrator. I typically do not need to take this extra step, but as a sailing aficionado myself, I knew the owner would appreciate the attention to the small details.
Below, is the line "tracing" that was used to draw the final image onto the watercolor paper. Again just the shapes of the sails, deck and hull were captured.

Here is the piece during the paint application;

The "Peregrine Falcon" Final Composition.
Size: 24" x 16" - 300 lbs ARCHES paper.

This piece was great fun to paint from my studio in West Seattle. I am hoping I might be able to Visit Palma de Mallorca in the future. Looks wonderful!

If you are interested in having me paint your favorite boat, please contact me and send me a photo and any information that you have specific to the vessel.
Please see the "Commission" tab for details on the process.
I would be more than happy to provide you an estimate for the piece.
Thank you, Phil Jones
